Obverse description The central device features the State Emblem of North Korea prominently positioned in the field: a circular emblem depicting a hydroelectric dam and power pylon set against a mountain landscape, surmounted by a five-pointed star with radiating rays, and flanked by sheaves of rice bound with a ribbon inscribed with the state name in Hangul. A Hangul legend reading 조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행 (Central Bank of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea) curves along the upper periphery. The denomination '1 WON' appears in Latin script at the base of the coin within a laurel spray motif. The design is executed in proof-like style with a mirrored field contrasting against the raised devices.
