Obverse description The state emblem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea occupies the central field, depicting a hydroelectric dam, a mountain landscape, and a radiant star above, all encircled by sheaves of rice tied with a ribbon bearing the country's name in Hangul. The denomination '1 원' (1 Won) is inscribed at the bottom of the field, flanked by decorative foliate devices. The circular legend reading '조선민주주의인민공화국중앙은행' (Central Bank of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea) runs along the upper periphery in Hangul script. The coin exhibits a deeply mirrored proof finish with frosted relief devices.
