| Obverse description | The central field features the State Emblem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea — an oval device depicting Mount Paektu with a hydroelectric dam and power lines in the foreground, flanked by sheaves of rice bound with a ribbon inscribed with the state name in Hangul, and surmounted by a five-pointed star radiating rays of light. Decorative foliate sprigs flank the lower field on either side of the denomination. The Hangul legend arcs along the upper periphery, and the denomination '1 원' (1 Won) appears in large characters at the bottom centre, with the date '2001' positioned to the right of the legend. |
