| Reverse description | Within a beaded inner circle, a plain Greek cross with equal arms is displayed centrally in the field, a standard device on Hanseatic civic coinage of this period. The quadrants formed by the cross arms are open. Surrounding the inner circle, the circular legend reads DEVS : In : nOmInE : TVO in uncial Latin characters, a devotional inscription translating as 'O God, in Thy name,' referencing Psalm 54:1 and commonly employed on North German medieval coinage. The lettering and overall design are characteristic of hammered silver issues from the Stralsund mint during the third quarter of the fourteenth century. |
