Reverse description Central quartered shield bearing the combined arms of Erbach and Mainz, set within a trefoil frame. Three subsidiary shields, bearing the arms of Cologne, Bavaria, and Trier respectively, are disposed in the intervening lobes of the trefoil, surrounding the central device. The arrangement reflects the heraldic alliances and ecclesiastical affiliations of Archbishop Dietrich I Schenk von Erbach of Mainz, presented in the characteristic late Gothic style of mid-fifteenth-century Rhenish minting.
