| Obverse description | Central field displays a crowned Habsburg arms shield featuring the characteristic diagonal barry pattern of the Alsatian landgraviate, adorned with small decorative charges in the quarters. The shield is surmounted by an imperial crown with visible arches and cross finial. A circular Latin legend surrounds the shield, reading RVD II D G RO IMP (or ROM IMPER), identifying the issuer as Rudolf II, Holy Roman Emperor, by the grace of God. The overall style is characteristic of small hammered billon coinage of the late sixteenth to early seventeenth century, with somewhat irregular flan edges typical of the period. |
