| Obverse description | Conjoined busts of King Ludwig II of Bavaria and Sophie, Duchess in Bavaria, facing right in high relief, rendered in a finely detailed neoclassical style. Ludwig II appears in the foreground with short, loosely curled hair, while Sophie is depicted behind him with elaborately braided and coiffed hair adorned with a floral ornament. The engraver's surname VOIGT appears incuse on the truncation between the two busts. A circular beaded border frames the design, with the circumferential legend divided above and below the effigies. The lower legend records the date of their betrothal: VERM. D. 12 OCTB. 1867. |
