| Obverse description | Cast copper cash coin featuring four Chinese characters arranged in regular script (kaishu) reading clockwise from the top: 紹豐平寶 (Thiệu Phong Bình Bảo), disposed symmetrically around a central square hole. The characters are bold and moderately raised in relief against a flat field, with a plain inner rim bordering the square perforation and a raised outer rim encircling the coin. The surfaces show typical green and blue patination consistent with aged copper alloy. The overall workmanship is relatively plain, consistent with a possible private or unofficial issue of the Trần Dynasty period. |

Thiệu Phong was the reign era of Trần Dụ Tông, who took the throne as a teenager and ruled through a period of mounting internal decay within the Trần dynasty. His reign coincided with repeated Cham incursions from the south and growing instability at court — not conditions under which careful monetary oversight flourished. The "private issue" attribution in Toda reflects longstanding uncertainty about whether this piece was struck under direct royal authority or produced by unofficial workshops operating in the dynasty's name, a distinction that matters considerably for provenance but remains unresolved in the literature.
