Issued under Zhang Fu's Chinese occupying administration during the fourth Chinese domination of Vietnam, this cash coin was struck not by a Vietnamese authority but by Ming dynasty officials who had abolished the Hồ dynasty and reimposed direct rule in 1407. The name "Thai Phap Binh Bao" reflects Ming administrative nomenclature imposed on Vietnamese minting practice. Zhang Fu governed with sufficient control to operate local foundries, but the occupation collapsed when Lê Lợi's Lam Sơn uprising finally expelled Ming forces in 1428.
