Obverse description Crowned and draped bust of King Charles I facing left, wearing a ruffled lace collar, with long flowing hair; the denomination mark XX appears in the field to the right of the effigy. A laurel branch is depicted below the bust. The circumferential legend, separated from the effigy by a beaded inner circle, reads CAROLVS D G MAG BRIT FRAN ET HIB REX XX, identifying the king as Charles by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland.
