Obverse description Crowned and mantled half-length effigy of King Charles I facing left, holding an upright sword in his right hand, with the denomination XX (twenty shillings) displayed to the right of the bust. The king is depicted wearing armour beneath a royal mantle, surmounted by an arched crown. The Latin royal title legend runs continuously around the periphery of the coin.

Reverse description A shield bearing three Prince of Wales feather plumes appears above the Declaration, the royalist rallying text inscribed in two lines on a continuous decorative scroll. The date 1642 appears in the exergue below the scroll. The entire composition is surrounded by the Latin legend invoking divine support, referencing the defence of the Protestant religion, the laws of England, and the liberty of Parliament — the key Royalist justifications for the Oxford campaign.
