| Obverse description | A crowned unicorn passant to the right occupies the central field, supporting with its forelegs a shield bearing the Scottish royal arms (a lion rampant within a double tressure flory-counter-flory). The unicorn wears a crown around its neck and is depicted in a bold, high-relief hammered style characteristic of late 15th-century Scottish gold coinage. The central device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin legend in uncial characters disposed around the periphery between the inner and outer borders. |
