The tyiyn — one-hundredth of a som — has existed largely as an accounting fiction since shortly after Kyrgyzstan introduced its national currency in 1993. Inflation rendered sub-som denominations worthless in everyday transactions almost immediately, yet the government continued issuing them in periodic batches. The 2008 date places this among the later restrikes produced well after the denomination had any practical circulation life.
