Reverse description A bold equal-armed cross occupies the central field, surrounded by a roughly circular beaded or granular border. The cross is rendered in a simple, raised style characteristic of early medieval Lombard tremisses. An encircling pseudo-legend composed of meaningless or debased letter-like characters fills the outer field, consistent with the degenerate epigraphy commonly found on Lombard coinage of this period where literacy of the die-cutter had declined.
