Obverse description Central field dominated by a bold, deeply struck diagonal arrangement of stacked pseudo-letters or runic-style strokes, rendered in a degenerate imitation of a Roman imperial legend. The garbled inscription, composed of meaningless letter-like forms, encircles the central motif and fills the field, reflecting the progressive degradation of Roman epigraphic models by Germanic die-cutters. The overall design is crude yet vigorous, characteristic of post-Roman barbarian tremissis coinage of the early 8th century.
