Obverse description A highly detailed coiled dragon rendered in high relief occupies the central field, its scaled body curling dynamically around a flaming pearl. Seven Japanese characters arranged in two vertical columns flank the dragon on either side, reading 大日本 明治七年 (Great Japan, Meiji Year 7). A fine beaded border frames the entire design. Along the lower portion of the field, a three-line English inscription reads '420 GRAINS. 900 FINE.' above 'TRADE DOLLAR', denoting the coin's silver content and trade purpose.
