Obverse description Crowned and draped bust of Philip II facing right, with curly hair rendered in fine relief. The effigy is depicted in the Renaissance portrait style typical of Spanish-ruled Italian mints of the late sixteenth century. A toothed or beaded border frames the design. The Latin legend surrounding the bust reads PHILIPP D G REX ARA VTR SIC, identifying the monarch as Philip, by the Grace of God, King of Aragon and of the Two Sicilies.

Reverse description A cornucopia filled with fruit and ears of grain, oriented to the left, occupies the central field. The date of issue is divided into two parts and appears on either side of the cornucopia. A beaded border frames the reverse. The encircling Latin legend PVBLICE COMMODITATI, meaning 'For the public benefit,' expresses the civic purpose of the coinage.
