Reverse description Hammered gold reverse bearing a rectangular cartouche in nastaliq script. The mint name 'Dar al-Saltanah Qazvin' (ضرب دارالسلطنه قزوین) is inscribed within the central field along with the AH regnal year. Floral and arabesque ornaments fill the outer field surrounding the cartouche, consistent with the decorative conventions of Qajar coinage. The irregular flan edge reflects the hand-struck production technique typical of this series.

Additional information

The Toman was Iran's primary gold denomination under the Qajars, but production was fragmented across provincial mints rather than centralized — Qazvin being one of the secondary striking locations. Naser al-Din Shah's early reign coincided with significant fiscal pressure, including the costs of his modernization efforts and the indemnity payments following the Anglo-Persian War of 1856–57, which strained the treasury and affected coinage regularity across provincial centers.

Qazvin mint output for this type is notably scarcer than Tehran or Tabriz issues from the same period.
