Obverse description Central field bears a multi-line Arabic calligraphic inscription in bold nasta'liq script, naming the ruler Muhammad Khudayar Khan, arranged in three or four lines within a plain inner circle. The inscription is framed by a raised beaded inner border, beyond which an elaborate scrolling vine and foliate ornament fills the outer annulus, terminating at the milled rim. The overall style is characteristic of Central Asian hammered gold coinage of the mid-nineteenth century, with the calligraphy dominating the flan and small floral rosette devices used as word separators.
