Thiệu Trị died in 1847, which makes the date range here immediately puzzling — these coins were struck posthumously under the authority of the Board of Revenue during the reigns of Tự Đức and his successors, bearing a deceased emperor's era name as a matter of monetary conservatism rather than confusion. The Nguyễn court periodically continued issuing coins in earlier reign titles, a practice rooted in Confucian administrative precedent borrowed from Chinese imperial tradition.
Fr#47 is scarce in any condition. French colonial disruption of the Vietnamese monetary system accelerated sharply after 1883, the same year this type ceased production.
