| Obverse description | Central field bears two large Chinese characters 紹治 (Thiệu Trị, the reign name of Emperor Minh Mạng's successor) arranged vertically in bold relief, executed in a confident calligraphic style. The characters occupy the majority of the flat, unadorned field. The rim is defined by a close-set radiating reed or granulated border encircling the entire obverse, lending the piece a distinctive decorative frame characteristic of Nguyễn dynasty gold coinage. |
