| Reverse description | Central device consisting of a large thistle, the national emblem of Scotland, with prominently cross-hatched head and bold naturalistic leaves at the base, surmounted by an open crown topped with a cross patée. The thistle is rendered in high relief within a beaded inner circle. The Latin legend is disposed around the periphery of the irregular flan, and the overall style is consistent with the hammered gold coinage of the Edinburgh Mint during the reign of James VI. |
