| Obverse description | Half-length armored effigy of Duke Wolfgang facing right, clad in full plate armor and holding a mace raised over his right shoulder. The date is divided by the figure on either side within the field, rendered in small letterforms. A Latin legend in small characters encircles the bust, identifying the ruler by name and titles. The portrait is executed in the robust German Renaissance style characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century Rhenish coinage. |
