| Obverse description | Central field displays the five-fold quartered arms of Hesse-Cassel within an oval cartouche, surrounded by elaborate baroque mantling and surmounted by a crowned helmet with fleur-de-lis finial. The quartered shield contains the heraldic devices of the Hessian territories, including a lion rampant, a star of six points, and additional charges. The date is divided by the crowned helmet, appearing to either side in the upper field. A circular inner beaded border separates the arms from the peripheral Latin legend, which runs continuously around the coin between the inner and outer rope-milled borders. |
