| Obverse description | Armored half-length effigy of Duke William V facing right, wearing elaborately articulated plate armor with ruff collar, the figure occupying the central field. The duke holds a sword upright in his right hand, its pommel visible at lower right. A beaded inner circle frames the portrait, outside which runs the Latin titulary legend in Gothic lettering reading GVILI D G IVLIA CLIVOR Z MONT DVX &, identifying the ruler as Duke of Jülich, Cleves, and Berg by the grace of God. The hammered flan exhibits characteristic irregular surfaces typical of late sixteenth-century German Thaler production. |
