| Reverse description | Large Imperial double-headed eagle displayed in the field, its wings spread wide, with a halo-orb (Reichsapfel) bearing a cross on its breast. A royal crown surmounts the two heads. The surrounding Latin legend, running clockwise and incorporating the date 1555, attributes the coin to the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. The legend is separated from the eagle by an inner beaded border, and the whole is rendered in the robust hammered style typical of mid-sixteenth-century German thalers. |
