Reverse description The elaborately quartered coat of arms of the Duchy of Brunswick, surmounted by a royal crown and supported by two rampant lions as heraldic supporters, occupies the central field. The shield displays the traditional dynastic quarters including lions passant, a horse, and other heraldic devices characteristic of the House of Welf. The arms are encircled by a decorative wreath tied at the base with a ribbon and ornamental cartouche. The date 18 37 is divided and placed in the lower field flanking the base of the shield. The circular legend EIN THALER XIV EINE F.M. surrounds the composition within a beaded rim.
