Obverse description Unadorned bust of Elector Wilhelm I of Hesse-Cassel facing right, with long flowing hair tied at the nape, rendered in a neoclassical style. The effigy occupies the central field, with the truncation cut square at the shoulder. A circular legend in Latin runs along the periphery, reading WILHELM I. KURF. SOUV. LANDGR. Z. HESSEN. GR. H. V. FULDA., denoting his titles as Kurfürst, sovereign Landgrave of Hesse, and Grand Duke of Fulda. The legend is bordered on the outer rim by a continuous ring of beads.
