Additional information

Toruń struck siege coinage in 1629 during the Polish-Swedish War, when Swedish forces under Gustav II Adolf occupied much of Royal Prussia and threatened the city's trade lifelines along the Vistula. The piece belongs to a small emergency issue authorized by the city council to maintain commercial function under blockade conditions — gold at thaler weight being a practical hedge when silver supply chains were severed.

Kop. 8248 is among the rarer documented siege issues from this conflict. Few examples survive outside major Polish institutional collections.
