| Obverse description | Central shield bearing the arms of the Bishopric of Münster — a figure of Saint Paul holding a sword, set within an elaborate Baroque cartouche of acanthus scrollwork. Above the shield, a bust of God the Father or Christ in glory emerges from clouds, flanked by wings. The date 1706 is divided across the upper field on either side of the celestial figure. A circular Latin legend surrounds the composition, reading CAPITULUM • CATH • MONAST • SEDE • VACANT * 1706, denoting the authority of the cathedral chapter during the vacancy of the episcopal see. |
