Rudolf II relocated the imperial court from Vienna to Prague in 1583, making Bohemia the administrative heart of the Habsburg empire for the duration of his reign. Rudolf's prolonged conflict with his brother Matthias, which culminated in the 1608 Letter of Majesty concessions, created chronic fiscal pressure that drove aggressive coinage production throughout the later years of this type's issue.
