Obverse description Draped bust of Abbot Placidus von Droste facing right, wearing a clerical cape adorned with an ornate cross pectoral, with long curled hair falling to the shoulders. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine baroque detail, set within a beaded inner border. The circumferential Latin legend runs continuously around the bust, identifying the abbot by his titles as Prince-Abbot of Fulda and Primate of Germany and Gaul.

Reverse description An ornate crowned oval escutcheon bearing the quartered arms of the Abbey of Fulda — a cross on a chequered field — displayed centrally within elaborate baroque foliate mantling. The helm above the shield is surmounted by a mitre flanked by a processional cross and a crozier, all rendered in high relief. The date 1688 is divided across the lower field. The circumferential Latin motto legend runs within a beaded border.
