Reverse description The entire reverse field is occupied by a six-line funerary inscription in Latin, composed in Roman capital letters separated by star-shaped stops, recording the death of Duke Philip II on 4 April 1596 and his age of 62 years and 11 months. Beneath the inscription, in the lower field, appears the mintmaster's symbol: a crowned pair of crossed keys, serving as the mint official's mark. The coin's edge is bordered by a bold beaded inner collar consistent with late sixteenth-century German minting practice.
