Obverse description Armored bust of Elector Moritz of Saxony facing right, depicted in three-quarter view wearing elaborately detailed plate armor, holding an upright sword in his right hand. The effigy displays a bearded portrait with strong Renaissance artistic treatment characteristic of mid-16th century Saxon coinage. The surrounding circular Latin legend reads MAVRICIVS D G DV SAX SA RO IMP, identifying the ruler by name and title. The portrait fills the central field with considerable detail in the rendering of the armor's articulated pauldrons and gauntlets. The whole is enclosed within a beaded inner border.
