| Obverse description | Armored bust of Mihály Apafi I, Prince of Transylvania, facing right, wearing elaborately engraved plate armor with a lion-head pauldron and a sash across the chest. The prince bears a sword over his right shoulder and holds a shield or escutcheon in his left hand. The legend encircles the bust along the outer rim, reading MICHA · APAFI · D · G · PR · TR · The portrait is rendered in high relief in the baroque style characteristic of Transylvanian thaler coinage of the mid-17th century. |
