Obverse description Standing figure of the Madonna with the Christ Child, positioned above the archiepiscopal coat of arms. The composition is enclosed within a circle, around which runs the opening words of the ancient Marian antiphon Sub tuum praesidium in Latin legend. The outer legend names the issuing Archbishop Paris Lodron by title and see. The design reflects the strong Marian devotional tradition of the Salzburg mint.
