| Obverse description | Laureate and armored bust of Emperor Matthias II facing right, wearing a ruff collar and elaborately decorated cuirass, contained within a beaded inner circle. The effigy is rendered in the refined Mannerist style typical of early 17th-century Habsburg portraiture. The peripheral legend reads MATTHIAS D G R I S A AVG G HVN BO REX, identifying the emperor as King of Hungary and Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor, divided by the portrait and running clockwise around the field. |
