| Reverse description | The arms of the Republic of Ragusa occupy the central field, comprising a horizontally divided escutcheon displaying alternating wavy and horizontal lines in a bold Baroque cartouche, flanked by elaborate acanthus-leaf scrollwork and supported by foliate mantling. A grotesque mask appears at the base of the cartouche and another at the top, beneath a large ducal crown with pendants that rises to the upper field. The encircling Latin legend DVCAT . ET . SEM . RHEIP . RHAG . 1748 reads Ducatus et Semper Reipublicae Ragusinae, meaning the perpetual Duchy of the Republic of Ragusa, with the date 1748 integrated into the legend at the lower left. The entire composition is rendered in a rich Baroque style with deep relief and fine engraving throughout. |
