Obverse description Draped bust of Emperor Joseph I facing right, wearing a long flowing periwig with curled locks falling over the shoulders, presented in high relief with fine baroque portraiture. The emperor is shown in armored dress with an elaborate mantle, reflecting the imperial dignity of the period. The encircling legend reads IOSEPHVS D G ROM IMP SEM AVG GER HV BO REX, distributed around the periphery and continued on the lower portion IMP SEMAGIPEX. The coin is bordered by a beaded inner circle and a milled outer rim. The portrait is executed in the refined Baroque style characteristic of late Habsburg imperial coinage.
