Reverse description The entire reverse field is occupied by a multi-line Latin commemorative inscription in bold capital letters, recording the auspicious assumption of the rectorship of the Academia Salana (University of Jena) by Johann Wilhelm, Duke of Saxe-Jena, under the guardianship of Wilhelm Ernst, on 23 February 1688. A radiate divine symbol, rendered as Hebrew letters within sunbeams, appears at the top of the field above the inscription. A decorative cartouche or flourish ornament is placed beneath the final line of text at the bottom of the field. The engraver's initials appear in the lower field below the cartouche.
