Obverse description Draped bust of Abbot Johann III of Henneberg facing right, depicted in ecclesiastical vestments with short hair, set within a beaded inner circle. The date 1539 is divided by the bust, with '15' to the left and '39' to the right in the field. The surrounding Latin legend reads IOHAN D G ABB FVL CO & DNS IN HEN, identifying the issuer as Johann, by the grace of God Abbot of Fulda, Count and Lord of Henneberg. The engraving is characteristic of the German Renaissance hammered coinage style, with bold linear detailing on the drapery.
