Reverse description Central field bears a seven-line funerary inscription recording the birth and death dates of Duke John II, set within an inner circle. The text is rendered in large raised Gothic-style letters filling the entire field. The circumferential Latin legend, separated by a small floral ornament and the letters 'WA' (for Weimar), runs along the beaded outer border. The overall design is characteristic of German memorial thalers of the early seventeenth century, combining devotional motto with biographical data.
