Reverse description The reverse bears a dense multi-line Latin commemorative epitaph inscription filling the entire field, arranged in approximately fifteen horizontal lines of text. The inscription records the dates of birth and death of John George III, the duration of his reign, and a laudatory eulogy extolling his virtues as a pious, just, brave, and prudent ruler, defender of the Church, protector of the poor and orphans, patron of the arts and sciences, and victor against the Turks and the French. A small cross mark appears at the top of the inscription field. There is no figurative imagery; the design is entirely typographic in the tradition of Saxon memorial thalers. The lettering is deeply and crisply struck in the Baroque epigraphic style.
