| Obverse description | Half-length effigy of Duke John Ernest II in three-quarter armour facing right, rendered within a beaded inner circle. The figure wears elaborately engraved plate armour and holds a commander's baton, with a ruffled collar visible at the neck. A small imperial orb appears above the bust at centre. The surrounding legend in Latin runs along the outer border, interrupted at the top by the orb motif. The portrait is executed in a robust baroque style characteristic of early seventeenth-century German thaler coinage. |
