Obverse description Armored bust of John Ernest II facing right, wearing elaborately decorated plate armor with a ruff collar, set within a beaded inner circle. The legend surrounding the bust reads IOH·CAS·ET·IOH·ERNEST·D·G·DVX·SAX, abbreviated titles invoking both co-ruling dukes. The date appears in the field flanking the bust, with the initials FRIED·ERNERT visible to either side of the portrait. Two heraldic shields are positioned at the top of the inner circle, flanking a crowned helmet crest.
