Obverse description Two confronted draped busts of the co-ruling dukes John Casimir and John Ernest II facing one another at center, each wearing ruff collars and period aristocratic attire. A Latin circular legend surrounds the effigies, reading IOH. CASIMIR. ET. IOH. ERNST. FRUD. DUCES. SAXO. D.G., invoking their titles as Dukes of Saxony by the grace of God. The busts are rendered in detailed relief characteristic of early seventeenth-century German Thaler coinage.
