Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing effigy of King Johann of Saxony, rendered in high relief with finely detailed curling hair. The truncation is plain, with the mint mark F appearing below at the bottom border. The surrounding legend, separated from the effigy by a beaded inner border, reads IOHANN V.G.G.KOENIG V. SACHSEN F. The portrait displays a classical academic style consistent with mid-19th century German coinage.

An Order cross pendant appears below the shield. The denomination legend EIN THALER XIV EINE F. M. arcs around the upper field, while the date 18 54 is divided at the lower field, flanking the Order cross. A beaded border frames the entire design.
