Obverse description Armored bust of Duke John of Saxe-Weimar facing right, wearing elaborately engraved plate armor with pauldrons and a ruff collar, a plumed helmet crest visible behind the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the characteristic German Renaissance hammered style. A circular beaded border frames the design, with the Latin legend running along the outer rim reading D G IOHAN DVX SAXONIAE LANDT THVR, identifying the ruler by name and title.
