Obverse description Central field displays a quartered heraldic shield bearing the arms of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, surmounted by an elaborate crested helmet with ornate scrolling mantling. The four quarters of the shield contain the traditional charges of the duchy, rendered in fine relief characteristic of early sixteenth-century German die-cutting. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, separated from the central device by a beaded inner border, recording the titles of Duke Heinrich the Younger (Heinrich IX) as ruler of Brunswick and Lüneburg.
