Obverse description Central nine-fold quartered coat of arms with a small inescutcheon at the heart point, displaying the dynastic quarterings of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. Three elaborate crested helmets surmount the shield, each adorned with ornate foliate and scroll mantling that fills the field. The armorial composition is rendered in high relief in the late Renaissance style characteristic of German coinage of the period. The circumferential Latin legend runs within a beaded border, identifying the issuing prince.
